My ipod nano 3rd generation is not recognized by my Windows 7 laptop when I plug it in under itunes latest version

My ipod nano 3rd generation does not appear as a device on my Windows 7 on the new version of itunes. Only the music that I have purchased from itunes in the past shows on the screen.
