Thank you so very much!!!  Changing the name of the epub to match the title of the book worked for me, too.

This worked for me, though further to this, I discovoered I had to have both the full and sample epub with the full title name.  Though this also causes problems.

In the end, mine finally worked by using:

Full Book - "Full Title.epub"

Sample Book - "Full Title SAMPLE.epub"

When I had both the full and sample books with the same name it would only accept which ever one I added first.  For the second book it was appending _1 to the title and this would break the MD5 check.

I should also mention I'm using the new v3 iTunes Producer.

When I tryed to upload an update of my book (ePub) with iTunes Producer 3 said me: Local MD5 Checksum mismatch with metadata... So I cannot update my books. No problems instead with iTunes Producer 2.9.1

Are you adding the same exact cover image file in Producer that you're using inside the ePub file?

I changed the cover several times during my updates, but the last was the same of the last update.

And more I had the same problem trying to submit a new book (ePub)

I'm not sure if this will help because it's probably due to apple, but make sure it's passing this http://validator.idpf.org/

Also, could you post the error text?

I cannot use validator because the file is 25MB, but passed Sigil validation and epub checker too!

Here the message of Apple: The calculated MD5 checksum of .................. for the local file ......  .epub does not match what is in the metadata (................).

I hate to say this but you'll probably have to email/call iBookstore tech support. The good news is, everytime I've called them, I get an actual human being within 3 rings. So calling them actaually has been a very good experience for me.

Change the name of the ePub file so that it's exactly the same as the title of the book.

I tryed too! And there is another problem: I tryed to send a new book in ePub format as usual with iTunes Producer 2.9.1, but with this damned iTunes Producer 3 I cannot!!!!!!!

Thanks all for your posts. I simply changed the NAME of the cover file I uploaded to iTunes Store to match the file name of the image I used in the ePub, and they uploaded without error. They were different because the store needs a higher res image.

My solution has been mentioned, but my error code was slightly different so I wanted to add my post.  My error code from Producer was:

ERROR ITMS-3000: "Line 576 column 29: element "data_file" incomplete; missing required element "checksum at XPath /package/book/assets/asset[2]/data_file"

The solution to this error was to name my .ibooks files the same name as the title of my book, even though Producer added underscores where I had spaces.  I changed the name of my sample file to the title of my book also and added a space and the word sample after the title and Producer seems to have accepted it.

Of course, now it doesn't like the resolutions of my screen shots, so back to Photoshop!

This error is unbelievable. You have to have the same file name of the cover art in the book as the cover you upload. The producer software is simply terrible. It's so buggy that I can't believe it's an apple product.
