Is the MacBook capable of AV out?

On my old iBook I could connect it to my TV via AV cables (made by apple). Is this still possible on the new MacBook, preferable using the same calbes I already have?

Thanks!

Yes - you will need two cables. One for video and the other for audio L/R. The video out needs to be a Mini-DVI to Video adapter (Apple model M9319G/A for $19). This adapter allows for either S-video or yellow video cable to TV video input. The audio needs to be a pin that inserts into the headphone socket of MacBook and the other two ends goto the audio inputs on TV.

This isn't a nice cable management system but it's all that's possible.

You will have to buy the Mini DVI video adapter for sure.

Hope that helps.

Ah man... I figured it would not work on the new
MacBook... bummer! My second question related to
this is will the miniDVI to VGA cable included with
the origional iBook G3 500 work on the new MacBook?
From the pictures I have seen the conectors look the
same, or are really similar.

Thanks.

No - the Video out adapter that I still have from an iBook G3 14" 700MHz dating back some 3-1/2 years will not fit into the miniDVI port of the MacBook. You will need to spend the $19 for the MacBook miniDVI to video adapter.

BarryXSharp and Imola are correct, to display your MacBook's screen on the TV, you will need the mini-DVI to video adapter. You will also need the video cable itself, the adapter is only an adapter. You will need an s-video or composite video cable to connect the adapter to the TV.

Keep in mind, you can continue to use your iBook's AV cable for audio-only from your MacBook's headphone port to the RCA audio in on your TV. Just don't plug-in the yellow cable to the TV.
