so, i have a problem.
When i tried to restart my Mac earlier today, I got the gray screen. Now i'm trying to reinstall my mountain lion, but when the install guide tells me to choose a disk to reinstall on, it says that my disk is locked.
please help, urgent!

Well iv'e tried both booting to "safety mode" and the PRAM/NVRAM options. Although now it seems that the disk I was trying to reinstall on won't mount.. I think maybe I have a harddrive issue
Try booting into the Recovery Volume by holding down the command - R keys during restart, or restart holding down the option/alt key and select the Recovery Volume. Open Disk Utility and see if you can mount the volume there. If so, verify and repair and repair permissions.
Yeah, iv'e tried, does not work. think my only option is to reformat the disk, but how do I do this, and is it any way of doing it that doesn't involve me loosing all my ****?
No, you'll lose your data. Do you have a backup? If you don't use Time Machine, here are some cloning programs you can use to make a backup. Two backups are better than one.
yeah, don't have a back-up. But do you know if I can get my files off the harddrive (by physicly removing the disk from the computer, and conect it to another cmoputer), without loosing my warranty?
