Can you import from a DSR-45 into Final Cut Pro X?

My company just bought a new iMac with Final Cut Pro X, and one of the projects we would like to tackle with it is importing and editing older standard-definition footage on MiniDV and DVCAM tapes. We have several Sony DSR-45 decks to use for this, however I cannot get FCPX to recognize the deck via Firewire.

Since it is a new iMac with no Firewire, I have gone from Thunderbolt, to the Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, to a 9pin-to-4pin IEEE 1394B cable, to the deck.

When going into FCPX (version 10.0.7), and going into the [newly] integrated Import Media window, no deck is there. There are no settings on the deck that should affect this that I havent tried already (i.e. the remote/local switch, and the DV EE Out setting).

Am I missing something? Is the DSR-45 even a FCPX friendly deck - and if not, what is that would take large shell 184min DVCAM tapes?

Thanks...

Final Cut Pro X, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
