"installation has failed" error

I am dealing with a problem which is driving me bananas. I own a MBP late 2011 with Mountain Lion installed. I have recently bought a good mouse from Logitech and I must install its drivers in order to enjoy all the functions it comes with. Apparently at the very end of the installation process (whatever the software is) I get a strange message saying "the installation failed"...

Do you know how I could make this work? I have tried reparing my Disk permissions, to no avail.

I appreciate any help.

Maybe installation is failing because software is not digitally signed.

If you are absolutely sure you got the drivers from Logitech site, you can momentarily disable Gatekeeper.

Go to System Preferences, Security & Privacy, General, unlock the padlock, select Anywhere.

Install the driver. Revert Gatekeeper setting to Mac App Store and Identified developers

Of course, but mind you.. the error shows up at the very end of the installation process, with almost ANY software... I was updating Mountain Lion this morning and although it did install it, at the end it said "an error has occurred"... Bloody ****...

Well. The installer puts 3 new apps into Applications/Utilities, a new Preference Panes, the kernel extension (drivers) in System/Library/Extensions and activate a new daemon that launches Logitech Control Center and a registration app for the new device.

But if errors you get is generalized, I doubt the culprit is Logitech software.

I would perform a Hardware Test just in case 🙂

If I may butt in - this happened to me some months ago. Three successive installs failed. The solution was to run Repair Disk in Disk Utility.

Reboot with command + r held down. From the four options select Disk Utility. Select your drive and run Repair Disk.

Problem SOLVED!!!! 😁

I tried to repair the Macintosh HD, but there was noting to fix. I run the installer once again, keeping an eye on the Console, for clues. All of a sudden I see a string quoting Vodafone stuff... I have uninstalled the Vodafone dongle app, and tah-dah.... everything worked beautifully. In order to be sure, I have cleaned the cache directory.

A big thank you guys
