My external DVD player is frozen, with the disk in it.

My external DVD player is frozen, with the disk in it. I can't get the disk out because supposedly it's "in use elsewhere", but it's not. It's frozen. I already tried restarting the computer to no avail. Now what?

First, unplug the superdrive from your Mac to kill power to it. Then shut down your Mac. Then plug in the superdrive into a USB port on the Mac. Hold down the (click down and hold it) touchpad while powering up the Mac. Keep holding it down until the CD or DVD ejects as the OS boots.
