HP Deskjet 990cxi crippled with Intel iMac

Has any one been able to get the above printer to be fully operational with an Intel iMac?
I have lost the ability to print in draft and have not been able to get two sided printing to work although it should(under Layout) using the Gimp Driver.

I have two versions of the printer installed one with HP's Driver 2.7.1 and the other with Gimp's 5.0.0 beta

Have also sent an E-Mail to HP with no reply as yet.

My G4 Powerbook with HP's 2.7.1 driver prints just fine over my wireless network.

According to the above article that I linked, the latest HP driver for the Deskjet 990cxi would have been included with the Tiger 10.4.4 that came installed on your iMac Intel:
"All included printer drivers are installed by default with Mac OS X 10.4.4"

I have the HP Deskjet 6840 and it is on the same list using that same 3.3 driver. When I open Applications>Utilities>Printer Setup Utility and then select (highlight) my printer, wait a few seconds and the "Show Info" button above becomes bold so that I can click on it, the report shows Driver Version: 3.3

I did not install 3.3, it was just there in the OS when I unpacked and started up the iMac.

Also, this list from the HP website indicates that the latest 990cxi driver was built into the Tiger software. I did the same search as you at the HP website and see the same thing you found, that it states that the driver is 2.7.1, however, in looking at the date, it is a 2005 date, so that is old, pre-iMac Intel information that I'm sure HP will someday get around to updating. As an enormous company, selling just tons of quality printers, HP has to closely cooperate with Apple to see that Mac users have available, through Apple, the latest updated drivers and software at all times.

What I would do is open the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences and click the + box to add a printer. That way you can watch carefully as you go through the process and see if there is an opportunity to select a driver from among several choices that might be provided for your printer. I am thinking you may be presented with three options from which to choose, but I don't know whether that will happen or not. I do know that you can setup the same printer in that System Preferences panel more than once, and if you get one setup so that it will work, and another that won't work, then you can delete the non-working setup so that you avoid future conflicts.

Deleted all my installed drivers then reset the Printing System from the Printer Setup Utility. Clicked on add and driver version 3.3 appeared which I installed. Driver 3.3 however does not hace a selection for Draft or Double Sided printing.
The Gimp Driver has a selection for Double Sided printing but it does not work.
Doing a search on HP's Web site for Deskjet 990cxi produces driver version 2.7.1 which also does not allow Draft or Double Sided printing.

I have let HP Support know of the above.

Thank You for all your help.

Here is the reply from HP.

"Unfortunately we do not have drivers for the intel macs so you will need
to wait for an updated driver to be released. The driver is print only
functionality so you can have hp notify you of updates."

The functions I was after are Double Sided and Draft.

So will have to wait or buy another printer.

I have a new intel Imac and an HP Deskjet 990. The printer works better than it did under my old Beige G3. I haven't tried two-sided printing but I can easily choose draft mode on Universal and Non-Universal applications. I click on "paper type/Quality" and there it is. I also like that the printer now multi-sheet jobs in reverse order so they are easy to pick up from the printer and staple. I was quite surprised to see that the other day.

How would I manually find and select hp deskjet 3.3 driver on my hard drive? I am trying to use this same printer while it is connected to my windows machine, but cannot find a specific driver from the drop down list that matches my HP printer. when I connect the HP printer directly to my powerbook g4, it works perfectly and automatically selects "hp deskjet 3.3"

What is the specific file name and location of the driver "hp deskjet 3.3?"
