    You don't update the firmware, you're updating the software, a flavor of iOS. Technical point, but you ought to be accurate.

     

    Go to Settings>General>Update Software. If there's anything to update, it will state it.

     

    The ONLY reason you would use iTunes to do anything with the software of the AppleTV is if there was a disaster, and you'd need to restore. That happens very rarely.
