Is the Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition Compatible with the 2009 8-core Mac Pro?

You wouldn't I think so. there has been some furor on other forums about the heatsink screws that come off the back of the card making it impossible to fit on 2008 Mac Pros but if it fits in your machine It'll do one of two things, work, or decide you don't have enough PCI-e lanse or something and just sit there.

Trust me, trying won't fry anything. Your EFI perofrms little tests on everything to as your Mac boots and anything it doesnt recognise it turns straight off to protect. Provided you're running a well updated OS X you should be fine.

Did a little more digging. Basically you cannot use it if your Mac is not EFI64. Mid 2008 refresh saw the first arrival of EFI64 so you should be fine, even if you have to use the lower slot to insert your GPU.

the 5770 is listed as 2010 only as well. The "anomolies" are with HDCP copy protected content:

the drivers sound like beta crap but that is not usual with new cards.

No. I put my own **** in there because I have so much trouble with my eyes now at 67, with hand eye, and with these darn PITA tablets and phones which I sometimes use from my easy chair.

I know from over a decade that drivers are always bad at first for graphic cards and OS X has needed three updates before they get it right (10.3.0 was first case in point and yes 10.2.x was really just beta itself).

Apple Pro RAID card? that is another piece of trash - it was original welcome even though $1000 for another POS.
