Jan 14, 2014 1:30 AM in response to ernesto18by nielsfrombel,I have the same problem. I have a partial solution that involves a USB extension cord.
Without the extension cord the keyboard is not recognised on the previously used USB port, with the extension cord it is.
Does anybody in here knows what this could mean? And maybe figure out a working solution for everyone?

Jan 20, 2014 12:08 PM in response to ernesto18by djlmcc,Thank you eresto18 and Ralph Landry 1 for your discussion here. Same thing happened to me just a couple of hours ago...turned on/ off...switched computers, etc. I even put it in sleep mode as was suggested, then plugged back in- still did not work. Then, I took keyboard and put it on the couch, pressing down on the keys softly for a few seconds. Replugged and it worked. Thanks again!

Feb 16, 2014 6:19 AM in response to ernesto18by PJFDUBLIN,Another person with same problem with new 2014 iMac running Mavericks and Apple USB keyboard and mouse.
First day all worked fine.
Then when turning on the iMac.... computer claims that it cannot find bluetooth keyboard.... which it never had. Wheel rotates forever trying to locate bluetoth keyboard while usb one is attached and not repsonding. Sometimes when usb keyboard is unplugged and replugged to either usb hub or back of imac it works, mostly it wont.
Total waste of time ....
Anyone have a solution ?

Feb 17, 2014 10:38 AM in response to PJFDUBLINby caribooderek,What worked for me was to put a usb extender cable on to the keyboard cable. I think the problem is because of a timing issue when your iMac starts up. For some reason, changing the length of the usb cable changes the timing and eliminates the timing problem. It has worked for me for months now, completely correcting the problem.

Mar 16, 2014 4:49 AM in response to Ralph Landry1by Judzaky,Hi there,
My keyboard is not responding either searching for Bluetooth.
Excuse my ignorance what's PRAM?
Regards
-
Mar 16, 2014 7:27 AM in response to Judzakyby Ralph Landry1,PRAM is the stored data on the peripherals and other components that can get out of sync and need to be reset, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US for more info...to reset the PRAM you need to shutdown and then restart with your hand contorted into a position it was never intended to be in

Mar 24, 2014 1:20 PM in response to PJFDUBLINby dg646,I have a very similar issue--sometimes when I plug a USB keyboard into a Macbook Pro it works, sometimes it doesn't. Tried multiple ports, sleeping, rebooting, chanting.
Your suggestion worked (at least this time =) -- I tried plugging the USB keyboard in via an old USB hub that I have lying around and it started working again.
Thanks for the suggestion. Hope Apple can come up with a firmware update or something. Kind of makes the old "it just works" campaign kind of ironic.

Mar 27, 2014 1:58 AM in response to Schornby seventy one,Your post will probably attract little attention. The thread is 12 months old. If you have a specific problem why not post it to us in the Macbook Pro column. You may learn if a fix has been created since then.

Mar 27, 2014 2:11 AM in response to ernesto18by Schorn,The problem exists at least since 2007. I've seen it on different devices, with different keyboard/mouse combinations.
That's an OS issue and there's this small chance that some apple dev eventually looks at this issue, so I'm bumping it
