No "Convert bitrate for this iPod” option when Nano connected

I have a 60Gb Photo and a 2Gb Nano. I used to have a shuffle. My music library is all in VBR MP3.

When connecting a shuffle, iTunes gives you the "Convert higher bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC for this iPod" option so that any uploads to the shuffle are converted to 128k AAC (leaving the original library copy untouched). This allows you to squeeze more tracks onto your shuffle without degrading the copy in the library.

There is no such option when a Nano is connected and consequently I get less tracks on a 2Gb Nano than I had on a 1Gb shuffle 😟

I don't want to convert my whole libary to AAC, nor do I want 2 copies of each song in the library (one AAC and one MP3).

Anyone got any ideas how I get more songs on my Nano without affecting the copy of each song in the library?

Cheers
Andy

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

You will have to convert the songs you want to transfer to your nano to a lower bitrate in iTunes yourself first. As you have already noticed, the option "Convert higher bitrate songs to 128K AAC for this iPod" is only available for the iPod shuffle. There is no such option for the other iPods.

I agree that such a feature should be implemented for the iPod nano, especially the 1GB or 2GB one.

Thanks.

Looks like I'll have to have a second copy of my itunes library (and the second copy has all tracks compressed down to 128k AAC).

I'll have to make sure that itunes is looking at the right copy (by moving around My Documents\My Music\iTunes) before I plug my Nano in.

Hopefully Apple will get this sorted so the second copy isn't necessary. It really makes no sense to have the Convert option for a 1Gb Shuffle but not for a 1Gb Nano.
