Trouble with Airport Extreme, Express

Hi, I'm having trouble connecting my Airport express to my Airport extreme. I basically would like 3 to connect to 2 and extend the wireless network rather than have 3 connect directly to 1. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I am running a MBP 2012 Retina, OSX version 10.8.3

The airport Express are updated to firmware 7.6.3

(the yellow status light on the router is due a "Double Nat" issue- I've been told it's okay to ignore that)

3 can "extend" the wireless network only if it connects directly to 1 like it is already doing.

Connecting it to 2 is possible, but that configuration will leave 3 unable to "extend" your wireless network. It could only join it, as a client. At present, that is what 4 is doing for you.
