I'm wondering if someone is able to use third party Audio plugins (like Waves, Sonnox, Sonalksis, etc.) in FCPX. I can't. I have them for Logic and I can see them in FCPX, but if I try to use them I encounter various issues (settings not saved, FCPX crashes, and so on...).
Only Logic plugs work fine
FCPX only has support for 64-bit third party Audio Units plugins.
Logic Pro recognizes several flavor of audio plugins in both 32-bit and 64-bit.
But all my Waves, Sonnox, Sonalksis, etc. plugs are AU versions... and are all 64 bit
That's odd, I'll have to look in to this.
Yes, it's odd, but it's so... At first it seems they work properly, but, i.e. I tried to put a Waves compressor (SSL4000) on some clips and FCPX crashed frequently. Then I removed the waves compressor and the issue disappeared....
In another occasion I tried a sonnox comp and I noticed that it didn't keep the settings I had made on it: it returned to its default values...
None of this happen with Logic plugs...So I'd like to know if someone else encounters this issues...
I've used 3rd party audio plugins (Izotope Ozone/Nectar) - I haven't noticed any issues with settings being saved.
Some latency/unresponsiveness at times, maybe a crash or two, but not since the early versions of FCPX.
Unless it's a fairly simple edit, I avoid using them & prefer to export the audio and apply effects there and import it back in. Just for obvious performance reasons.
There are NUMEROUS of issues with third pty AU's in FCPx. I have reported many of them. Settings not getting stored, crashes etc etc etc...

AU integration in FCPx is highly erratic. Unfortunately.
You also wanna be VERY careful when using .CAF files in FCPx which have more than two channels of audio. Distortion etc... are bound to happen unless you take appropriate measures and disable channels not pertaining to stereo.
Now it makes sense to me... I was afraid to be the only user with this problem.. On the contrary SEngineer confirms there is a defective AU integration in FCPX
I have the same problem. I installed Waves 9 AU. They appear and work,however if I decide to remove the plugin from the clip in the time line FCPX crashes. I only wish that this can be fixed as this would save me from having to export the audio out of FCPX for when there is some serious audio fixing to be done.
I whish it too. I have Logic Pro and work with it much part of my job. But, seeing that FCPX is so effective and reliable with audio now, it is a pity that you can't work with ext plugs too....
