How do you remove an existing "unlock passcode" and reset to the default setting (just swipe the arrow) on an iphone 4s

Settings -> General ->Passcode Lock. Enter in the passcode and then turn the option off.

Enter the existing passcode, then turn it off.
If you don't know what the passcode is, then restore the phone using the computer you normally sync with.
Settings > general > Passcode Lock OFF
I tried to turn the passcode off, it came to a screen that says "turn passcode off" and then it asks me for a passcode and when it hit cancel, goes back to same screen ,,,,,simple passcode says off, but when I go back out of Setting, Passcode Lock is still on

Is your iPhone set up to a company Exchange server or otherwise managed by your company or organization? If so, they probably have the profile set up to disallow turning off the screen lock. Talk to your company IT department.

When it asked you for the passcode you should have entered it, if you know it.
I turned the passcode lock off, would not stay off
I did enter it EEEEKKKKK🙂 😝😁 , but what I didn't realize is that you have to enter it again in the passcode lock off, .......And I am not really blonde............So this worked....Just the instructions maybe not as clear.....Basically you have to enter your password twice , I only entered it once.......THANKS AGAIN FOR BEARING WITH ME...........MUCHLY APPRECIATED 😍
You are very welcome...sometimes what is obvious to someone who has been through the procedure, and may skip what they think are intuitive steps, is not so clear to the person doing it for the first time. Glad it did work out well for you even if you are not blonde :-)
It worked! After turning off the pass code, you will be prompted one more time for your pass code, press enter. This takes you to the pass code on/off screen. The screen will display the message "passcode off".

You have been provided with numerous responses on how to turn off the passcode. Since this thread is 3 years old, I suggest everything is fine. Now, if you have a problem, how about taking the time to describe it, in detail, and what troubleshooting you have done.
