Cannot close empty blue barber pole message box.??

A blue barber pole "progress" window with no title and no buttons opens in Pages, but disappears on force quit of Pages. Otherwise it will not permit closing a pages file. It does not respond to Command- . or to Close window commands. While it is open it blocks several changes, typing in windows etc.

How do I get rid of this.

I am running Mountain Lion of a 27in iMac. Pages O9 otherwise has been working flawlessly.

Suggestions?

I had this problem too, particularly if I forgot to Save a Pages document before closing my laptop.

Here's a workaround I found:

Click on the document itself, not the 'barber pole' window.

choose

File/Revert To/Last Saved

OR

File/Revert To/Last Opened

That should clear the 'barber pole' window and you can now save your document and continue working.
