HT201323: iTunes Store: How to delete songs from iCloud

Learn about iTunes Store: How to delete songs from iCloud

Q: This article is wrong with the latest iTunes. I can't delete--the only choice is hide. But tracks still show as Duplicates in iPad.

I wanted to replace a bad rip of a CD with a purchased version from iTunes, since it just showed up on the store. But despite what the support article says, I can't delete the old tracks--it just offers hide. I did that, and the Mac is correct, but now everything is doubled on my iPad and iPhone. Both the old and new tracks and I can't listen at all!

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

    Hi Russell,

You are mixing apples and oranges here. You want to delete a CD that you manually added to iTunes (not one that your purchased). Also, the article you have showing is for iTunes Match via the cloud, and all that does is remove tracks/CDs from a device and put them back in the cloud.

You need to go to your computer, and manually drag the offending album to the Trash can. It will ask you if you want to permanently delete it from iTunes. Say yes.....be sure you are dragging the one you burned to iTuness and not the one you purchased....

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

I'm afraid you are misreading. I deleted the old tracks from my Mac, and instead of the box saying delete from iCloud -- as in the article -- the box said "Hide in iCloud."

I chose that and deleted the bad files. I purchased the new version on iTunes and updated iTunes Match. But on my mobile devices I still see both files, do the album shows two song 1s, two song 2s, etc.

But since they don't show in iTunes on the Mac there seems to be no way to fix it. When did delete turn to hide, and why doesn't the article reflect that?

    Because documenting is hard.

What a PITA.  This was actually one of the clear, usable features of iTunes Match.  Figures they'd silently change it and offer no explanation or direction on how to use it!
