Ipod problems

When I plug in my Ipod to my computer it say Itunes has encountered a problem and that it has to close. If I click to see why this happened it says "error type: BEX" and a bunch of numbers after that. Any ideas as to why this happens? My Itunes works just fine on it's own. But it's only when I plug in my Ipod.
