Q: imac osx 10.7.5 won't navigate internet

Problem:

Since March 16, I think after software update, my imac osx 10.7.5 can not display web pages (error: Safari can not connect to the server ...; same error with firefox). The mac is connected to the router via wi-fi, and cable. In the setting of my router tplink my mac is listed and has the ip address and mac address.

If I restart the computer with System Restore utility and try to navigate using the function 'search for help on the Internet' everything works. I ripistinato system osx lion without success.

I tried many solutions, but all without success someone can 'help me?

Can you connect for email purposes? Is it just web-browsers that are the problem?

Do you have any anti-virus installed - e.g. Kapersky, Avast, MacKeeper?

There have been some threads on here where they have caused problems with users being able to connect to the internet.

If you do have an AV installed, try uninstalling using the uninstaller from the developer. In the case of MacKeeper it's a bit more complex, so if you have that insalled post back for detailed instructions.

In System Preferences>Network>Select Ethernet or WiFi>Advanced button>Proxies tab. Is anything ticked/selected? If so, deselect it.

If that doesn't help, try making a New Location:

As described under 'Making new location': http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289

If that doesn't help, try adding the OpenDNS numbers to your network settings (make a note of the number that is already there in case you need to re-instate it):

    1. Go to System Preferences.
    2. Click on Network.
    3. Select the first connection in your list and click Advanced.
    4. Select the DNS tab and add 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 to the list of DNS servers.
    5. Click OK

    hi Paul,

unfortunately does not solve my problem...

If i restart the mac in 'safe mode' everything works (wifi and cable)...

but when I restart normally, the internet is locked again

I just can not understand the problem.

What startup items do you have running in: System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items

It's possible these are the problem - delete them from the startup items.

A quick Google search shows these as part of Peer Guardian. Do you have that installed? I seem to remember a thread where it was causing someone similar connectivity issues.

If you do have it installed, it's best to use the developer's uninstaller, if one is available. If not use AppCleaner that you obviously have.

I also had the same issue and even called APPLE CARE and they could not figure out why I was having this issue…it's a shame that I had to Google the issue and find the answer here and not while I was chatting with an APPLE tech :-(….either way your solution worked for me :-)….PEER GUARDIAN was my little gremlin that I got rid of using AppCleaner…funny that it just happened all of a sudden like that though….
