Publish on IWeb not working

Hi,

I tried to edit my website last night. I deleted and added some pictures then clicked on publish. Now it's been over 12 hours. The publish is grayed out. The folder is still red and when I tried to close IWeb it says it's in the process of publishing. I've checked my website and none of my changes are there. How do i fix this? What is the issue?

HELP!!

Hello Roddy,

I am also having a publishing problem. I would describe it almost the same as Silpisces77 has in his/her original post.

The difference is that I hadn't added anything to my site. I had opened iWeb to swap my temporary home page (announcing a temporary closure of my store) with my normal home page. I've done this hundreds of times.

But after doing the drag-n-drop swap, it wouldn't publish. All indications were that it was 'trying' to publish (as Slipisces77 had described).

I have contacted my host and verified that the files are intact upon the server.

It normally takes about 3 minutes to publish the site. I tried all week last week to fix this (repairing permissions, deleting preferences, etc) and thought that maybe over the weekend I'd just let it keep working (assuming it was doing something considering it tells me that it is when I try to quit). When I hit my desk this morning, nothing had changed.

As per your suggestion above, just now I tried publishing to a local folder. It won't.

I could try calling my host again and have them delete the whole site from the server and try publishing from scratch, but I don't want to pay for that quite yet ....

Any other suggestions?

UPDATE:

I've deleted:

iWeb.app

Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist

Home Folder/Library/Cache/iWeb

System Library/Receipts/iWeb.pkg

System Library/Receipts/iWeb_304.pkg

... and reinstalled iWeb. I've created a brand-new site and tried to publish it locally. No dice.

I assume then that it is an iWeb -- and its related bits-n-bytes -- problem. Have I missed anything in the list of deletions above?

Try the following:

1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your

User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.

2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your

User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).

User uploaded file

3 - launch iWeb and try again.

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

If that doesn't help continue with:

  1. move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
  2. launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
  3. go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
  4. move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
  5. launch iWeb and try again.

Hi There,

I followed your instructions, since I could not delete, I threw in the trash. When I restarted iWeb, all the websites I had worked on were gone in iWeb. except for my very first attempt. I went into the trash got the files out and put them back in and was able to see the sites the way they were built. Does you method inherently loose the sites? If that is the case, is there any way to back them up somewhere else? That way all those pages do not have to be rebuilt.

Thank you!

No, my methods does not lose the sites.

Here's what supposed to happen: when you move the original domain file to the Desktop and crate a new one there will not be any sites in it. When you delete the new domain file and replace it with the original domain file that you moved to the Desktop your sites will come back

The procedure specifically says to move the original domain file to the Desktop, not the trash, and then move it back to the iWeb folder.

Hi,

So I had followed the first part of the instructions. ThenI followed the second part, putting the original and its backup on the desktop. Created a new site, closed iweb, went into Library/Application Supports/iWeb to delete the new domain file but there is none to be found. I really do not know what I am doing wrong. HELP!??

Do a search for Domain.sites to see where the newer domain file is located. You may have to use Find Any File to search for it as it will search areas that Spotlight can't, i.e. system folders, invisible folders, etc. If you can't find that newer library move the domain file from the Desktop into your Home/LIbary/Application Support/iWeb folder and launch iWeb again. It should find the older domain file and open it. If you still have problems see the following:

In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"

delay 1

tell application "iWeb" to activate

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.

Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
