Q: I cannot add my phone number to iMessages so that they show up on my phone as well.  I can only add email addresses??? Thanks!

I cannot add my phone number to iMessages in my iPad so that they show up on my phone as well.  I can only add email addresses??? Thanks!

    On you iPhone, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and confirm that your phone number is listed under "You can by reached by iMessage at".  (If it's grayed out, that's normal.)  Assuming it is, on your iPad, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the Apple ID, sign out, then sign back in, ensuring that you are using the same ID you are using for iMessage on your phone.  See if it now shows your phone number.

    Hi Randers,

    I followed all instructions and everyhing is correct, but on my iPad, under Messages, it will not allow me to add my iPhone cell number...only an email address. When itty to add my cell number, an X appears on the line.

    Are you running iOS 6 on your phone and iPad?  This is required to use your phone number for iMessage on your iPad.

     

    If you are, try going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive on your phone, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in.  Then do the same thing on your iPad.
