ipod doesn't show up in itunes

this is getting rediculous. this is the 4th time i've tried to sync my ipod. if i have to troubleshoot and find a new way each time i sync to get my ipod to show up. something is wrong and needs to be fixed. if this persist i will stop using itunes, and maybe even ipods. my computer shows my ipod, but itunes can't see it? instead of designing new GUIs for itunes, maybe work on making it WORK!

iPod touch, iOS 5.1.1

I have the same thing. The sidebar is on, Bonjour is enabled, Apple Mobile is enabled, the cable works because the PC recognises the iPad as a hard drive, in Preferences the iPad shows up in Devices.

I've restarted the PC more than once - but no Devices are visible in iTunes. Turned on "Share my library" made sure - "Prevent iPads from syncing was NOT checked .... still no Devices.

I wanted to transfer a new eBook to my iPad but can't do it. I've done it before on this PC - before the iTunes 11 upgrade.
