Somehow, I have selected an option that has hidden the iCloud icon from my screen. How can I restore it?

There isn't an iCloud icon other than in Settings. Are you saying you don't see Settings>iCloud?
Thanks for your response. Yes, I do see the icon in Settings>iCloud but I was certain I had an icon on one of the pages.
I was told there was a way of accessing iCloud from the iPad Mini to manage such things as catagories in Contacts and I was hoping to make some improvements.
I find the contacts application on iPad is particularly poor and wanted to create catagories. Just as well I have Outlook on my PC.

You can create contact groups on icloud.com but this has to be done from a computer, not from your iPad (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfba73c71). If you want to do this on your iPad, you have to use an app like Speed Names. If your computer is syncing contacts with your iCloud account, you can also do this in Outlook (as you mentioned).
