Podcast app

I have been using iTunes for several years to download podcasts and create playlists. (I set up a playlist weekly)

Is there any advantage to doing this in the Apple Podcasts app? I think I read that initially the app did not have a playlist feature. But, apparently, that is no longer true according to the "details" in the app store.

I would be interested in others experiences with the app before I make a change.
