i.Link to Thunderbolt connection

I have a brand new iMac which has USB ports and Thunderbolt (but no Firewire any more).

I have an old 2006 Sony HDC HC1E camcorder that I'm trying to import some old DV tapes from. The camcorder supports DV i.Link output.

So, I thought I'd just buy a USB to DV i.Link 1394 cable and that would work. However, iMovie just doesn't detect the camcorder unlike my newer camcorders that just plug and play.

If I buy a i.Link to Firewire 800 cable and a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt converter should this work?

Thank you.

You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable. For example, this one...http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10301&cs_id=1030104 &p_id=3541&seq=1&format=2

You will also need a Thunderbolt to Firewire Adaptor.

That should work.

Thank you for your help and that was pretty much what I was assuming I'd need.

Interestingly (having purchased an Apple Thunderbolt adaptor and a Firewire cable) my latest iMac just gets a blue screen on input. Plugging the same camcorder (and same settings) in to my previous iMac which has the Firewire 800 port on it (and using the new Firewire cable purchased today) it imports perfectly.

This suggests the Thunderbolt converter is the issue? Any ideas as to why that in the mix is stopping it import?

Thank you.
