Does Apple have a program that will convert MOD video files to something that iMovie and quicktime will accept?

I am trying to use video files that are currently on our panasonic SDR-H80 video camera. iMovie will not accept this file type. Is there an apple app that will convert from MOD files to something that iMovie and Quicktime will accept?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

There is a discussion here http://www.masternewmedia.org/how_to_convert_mod_video_files_to/ about how to view and/or convert them. For simply viewing, VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ should do the trick.
