Skype crashes when launching

I have a brand new macbook pro with retina display 13 inch, I've been working hard to set up all the software I need for my work, now i'm having a big issue regarding skype. What's happening is that as soon as it starts launching it crashes and closes it self right away after 4 seconds of the initial signin in process, It actually signs in but it crashes right after it does.


I really need to solve this since Skype is my main tool for work


I've erased it from the computer and reinstalled 5 times already, but it's not working, this is the log I'm getting:

Read this whole message before doing anything.

Back up all data.

Quit Skype if it’s running.

Step 1

Hold down the option key and select

Go ▹ Library

from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash, if they exist:

  • Caches/com.skype.skype
  • Saved Application State/com.skype.skype.savedState

Leave the Library folder open. Try Skype again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.

Step 2

If you still have problems, quit Skype again. Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:

Application Support/Skype

Note: you are not moving the Skype application. You’re moving a folder named “Skype.”

Test. If Skype now works, delete the Skype folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Skype again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place, and continue.

Step 3

Move the following file from the Library folder to the Desktop:

Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist

Test again. This time Skype should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. Recreate them.

If the issue is still not resolved, quit Skype again and put the file you moved in step 3 back where it was. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post again.

If you later decide that you don’t like the results of steps 2 and 3, you can undo them completely by quitting Skype and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

I tried all the 3 steps you sugested thank you very much for your help but none of them worked, it keeps doing exactly the same thing, as soon as it launches it crashes right away after 3 seconds


If use skype with my old skype account works perfectly, but i realy need to use it with my microsoft account because of all the contacts i have for my work


please let me know if you have more suggestions

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac."

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?

After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

just a +1 for this solution:

I had a similar crash, skype would run for 10 minutes or so & then crash. I don't have the whole report but for the crashed thread:

I tried the first step, moving the Skype folder out of ApplicationSupport. It appears to have fixed the problem.
