widget on same screen

Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and now when I click on my dashboard icon the screen "wipes" and the widgets are available...I really preferred the widgets popping up on the screen you're viewing - for instance, the calcuulator is often used for banking and even though the screen faded a bit you could still see the numbers you wanted to work with.

Surely there's a way of modifiying this? - I'm still a iMac noob. 🙂
