In your case, if you want to mirror the MacBook onto your Apple TV, you have to use a third-party app as AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com

AirPlay Mirroring requires an iPad 2 or newer. Unfortunately, a 1st generation iPad isn't compatible with AirPlay Mirroring
