Q: ios 6.1.3 WIFI problem

EMBEE82.....Are you removing any part of the case before using the heat gun?? And any particular area that you focused on with the heat?

Yes, I recomend you to follow this step by step guide to remove the logic board, don´t be afraid, it´s not that hard. Just keep an eye on those flex cables, I had to replace one

I just took a picture to show you what area I heated up. This is the wifi chip (actually a sticker on the chip but you can leave it alone)

I had to do it twice, first time I was too scared and only heated it up for about 20 seconds. The wifi worked for only an hour and then greyed out again. So I disassembled it again and heeated it up for about 1,5-2 minutes and it was really, really hot. I wondered if it ever will power on again but on the other side - 211 EUR repair was too much and and an Iphone without wifi is almost useless to me.

If you decide to try it out, let me (us) know if it worked.

Just upgraded my iPhone 4S to 6.1.3 and now Wi-Fi is gone.  Not surprised to know that Apple is letting users down again.  Definitely my last iCrap device.

I tried something similar to your recommendation, but did not take apart phone.  I live in a hot desert climate. Left phone in sun for 20 minutes, nothing too lose as I will need to get a new phone soon. Too hot to pick up.  The screen showed temp fail safe & wouldn't turn on until cooled down.  Once cool I reset network settings.  After that wifi & BT worked.  The next morning they still work.  We'll see how long this works for.  I still believe this has been affected by software patch, but tied to either a pcb manufacturing issue that is affected by heat or errata that puts the IC in a corner lot area of defect that was triggered by the software upgrade.  This also could be tied to the way the IC was bonded inside the package of the wifi/BT radio chip.  Again something tied to a marginal spec that has been affected some way.

Will update if anything changes.

that is really FRUSTRATING.. i expected apple iphones to be among the bests, but now i see they are just like all others ..:( just more expensive than them!!!

IT is not your iPhone 4S I also recently updated my iPhone 4S and I had the same problem. All you have to do is go to settings>general>reset>settings. (If you are able read try not to reset the whole phone) so that should fix you is not contact your wifi provider and the should be able to help

It's now been 5 days since I heated the phone up in the sun & both the wifi & BT still work.  I'm becoming more convinced its a combination hardware & software issue.  Very marginal I'd heating the device appears to affect the change..

rhh1's method worked for me:

1) left iPhone in sun for ~20 min. (88 F today, the phone is black, I put it screen down, phone became too hot to touch)

2) wait ~10 min to cool-down

3) reset network settings

rhh1's method also worked for me.

I left my phone in my hot car for approximately half an hour.

I waited five minutes for it to cool down, then reset the network settings (settings>general>reset>reset network settings). Wifi now works fully!

Hopefully this is a permanent fix!!

I was trying to pick up wifi at a hotel & my phone wasn't finding any networks, so I tried turning the wifi off (to reset it). Then I turned the Bluetooth on, thinking that I would turn it off again and reset it. It ended up getting stuck searching for a network for hours, and I had to reset my entire phone to turn that off. Once the Bluetooth had finally shut off, the Wi-Fi button was greyed out and I hadn't been able to turn it on since. I've been searching for a solution for days and come across many people who have had the same problem. I was beginning to be concerned that it was unfixable. Hopefully this method will help others too!

That just worked for me.

Turned off iphone, put it in my car for 30 minutes face down and under the sun, let it cool off 10 minute anf then turn it on and wifi is back.

Hey Apple...I am having the same problems as all these other people. It started a few days ago when I finally upgraded to ios 6.1.3. My phone worked perfectly until then. I am so disappointed there is not a fix for this. I can't use my wifi or bluetooth anymore, which is a massive inconvenience I am going to have to find a solution to. I had been hoping my phone would last more than a year and half since I paid so much for it. Please fix this! I own so many of your products and am really hesitant to buy more after this. I loved that phone.

By taking apart the iPhone you will have voided any warranty that you may have had.  There are other ways to fix a wifi issue

7 days since "fixing" the phone by heating on the sun. Wifi still alive.

Joly.Winters85: Most people upgrading their iPhone 4S to the latest and not-so-greatest version of iOS no longer have any warranty left.  The fact that Apple's  update breaks its own devices, forcing users to buy new ones, is shady at the very least.  Either Apple has become too big and arrogant to care, or it's a deliberate action designed to make people buy more of their products.
