How do I delete emails without opening them on my IPad

When I want to delete a message, I click on edit, then select the message. It opens before I can delete it. There are some messages that may contain a virus and I don't want them to open. So how can I delete a message without it actually opening?

Swipe the email from left to right on the right column.

You can swipe across the message in the preview window on the left side - a red delete button will pop up.

Your iPad cannot get a virus so you have no worries there.
