At first the charger started off with a bump by the top part but now it just doesn't charge my phone. I was wondering if apple will give me a new one if i take it to the store?

I had same problem and called support and then went to the store. They charged me $17. I also had the care us. I'm not happy. It was only 6 months old
mine broke aswell but i bought 3 off amazon as spares for about $5 which work fine for me.
If the Apple iPhone5 charger is broken, get a new from Apple, you still have warranty.

If you mean you damaged the charger it will NOT be covered by the 12 month warranty
you will have to purchase a replacement
If it is only a manufacturing defect then it will be covered by the warranty and replaced free
