my ipod is freezing and making a clicking noise. its also giving me an error message and wont connect to my itunes account

so my ipod sstarted clicking and froze on me randomly. i let it die to see if that would fix the problem now i have it plugged into my computer and its giving me an error message it wont connect with itunes account and its still making a clicking noise. i cant get it to connect to the computer to try and reset it . any ideas of what i can do?
