What is best set up for home network?

My wife and I currently use 2 MacBook Pros and a 1TB Time Capsule for wifi network / internet access. I would like to upgrade our storage space to allow joint access to iTunes Library music and videos (approx 500MB) and Pictures folders (approx 300MB). I would also like to maintain automatic back up function with Time Machine.

I am not sure what I should be doing to achieve the best set up for a network. I would like a new, larger external HD to store all our folders in one location that we can both access, and also ensure that it is automatically backed up.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks.

I am currently using a Western Digital 3TB my book external hard drive. Plugged into my airport extreme it allows all authorized users on my secure wi-fi network acccess to I tunes and any other data i feel like sharing with them. You can also restrict or limit their access to what you want them to see. I currently have 8 or 9 devices at any given time accessing the WD MB3TB, with no issues. Eventually I plan on making either the Mac Pro, or the Mini a dedicated server... not sure which one yet, as I'm not done upgrading them. Hope this helps!! Mark

Lacie D2 Network 2 drives have these capabilities, including auto backup of the D2N2 network drive itself. It supports Mac & Windows, UPnP & DLNA (media sharing, including iTunes and photos), and is Time Machine compatible. It comes with backup software for both Mac & Windows and a very nice management utility. I have a number of these drives and they have always worked perfectly.

The Lacie 2big NAS will also do what you said you want, and provides RAID 0, RAID 1 and Wuala cloud support. It has iTunes & media support but not DLNA (but I don't think you need DLNA if all you want to do is share your iTunes library & photos.) I haven't used one of these, but I do trust Lacie equipment.
