how come I can't HIDE all my windows in OSX 10.8 mountain lion?

When I press CMD-H to hide a windows, it stops working when I have one window left. So I can't see all of my desktop.

I thought I could hide them all a few versions ago...

I just assumed I was dreaming.

Until I sat down at a friends MAC Pro with ML and low and behold, I can CMD-H every window until I can see the full desktop!

So, this must be a feature I have turned on someplace?

heh. My machine was just about the last model before the "real" trackpads came out. I still have a mouse button...

"hide" is disabled on the last program. I have tried the order I hide windows so a different one is last, and the "hide" command is always greyed out on the last one.

F11 works. All windows zipp off the sides....

hmmm.... Something is different from the last time I played with this. Now when I change the order I hide windows, after I hide the last non-finder windows I see desktop for a second, then Finder windows pop up.

If I press CMD-H again, I toggle back and forth between FINDER and the second last window I hid!

ohhhh this really sounds like a feature I enabled by accident....

Ahhhhh! CT you hit something.

I noticed that my friend never HIDES windows, he always hits CMD-W to close them. Consequently he does not have any Finder windows open.

So it could be doing the same behaviour on his machine, I just didn't realize it.

Playing around more with the order in which I HIDE windows and I'm finding that Skype is alwasy the window I find myself toggling between after I close everything else. That is, CMD-H goes between Finder and Skype, after I have hidden everthing else (Mail, Firefox, terminal, Textmate, Preview, Parallels) lots of windows.

I have pending messages in Skype, so that might have something to do with it re-popping up?

Does anyone have an answer to this behavior? I have the same problem as Richard with skype always hiding and unhiding by pressing cmd-h repeatedly.
