Start-up problem with 2008 MacPro

(Am starting a new thread - no need to read all the posts from yesterday.)

My MacPro won't start UNLESS I go through the following process:

* unplug everything, every USB, ethernet, even power,

* push the front power button & hold it for 120 seconds

* then just plug in one monitor, the keyboard USB cable, and the power...

obviously, these are a lot of steps to go through everytime I want to power on and / or re-start!

Does anyone know what's going on? Can anyone make a suggestion?

Thanks!

yes... I wound up taking it to the shop - an expensive repair, essentially a refurbishing. The J&R tech guy tested everything, wound up replacing the logic board, video card, as well as the original DVD drive which stopped working a while ago... anyhow, it was costly and took two weeks, but was worth it - the machine now functions like a brand new unit! a very awesome and powerful machine, it justified the expense of refurbishing it to keep it going for a few more years, I hope!
