do screen protector's make scratches less visible

Hi, so i got a screatch on my mbp r. I am passed the 14 day return time, and it will cost a lot to replace it. So I am gowing to get a screen protector for it, to instore this it doesn't happan again. My question is. Do screen protectors make the rainbow effect, of scratches less visible. It's not a deep scratch but it does have the rainbow efect on like background. Also you have to be quite close, to the screen to see it. If I was to put you infrount the screen, and did not tell you there was a stretch, you'd probably not notice it. But it bugs me.
