Service Battery x Cycles

Battery Service is showing on my MacBook.

I bought the Mac new on late 2009, the battery was replaced in 2011 under warranty and has now 680 cycles.

Is this normal beaviour? It's suppossed to last 1000 cycles!

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

That's not the normal behaviour. I recommend you to read that site in order to know what to do to increase the battery life.

Apart from that, first try resetting the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 If it doesn't work, sadly your battery has to be replaced again, so take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller

The projected life of a Lithum-Ion battery is nothing more than a statistical estimate of how many charge cycles it will be able to handle before the charge capacity drops to 80% of the as-built capacity. There will be batteries that fail sooner and batteries that fail later. There is no guarantee that any one specific battery will meet the projected cycle life.

How tha battery is discharged/charged, heat/cold exposure have major affects on the cycle life. Studies by independent testers have found that discharge to shutdown and then recharge repeatedly will degrade the battery about four to five times faster than discharge to 50% and then recharge.

Heat and cold have very serious impacts on battery life.

Hou have to look at more factors than simply the number of charge cycles in determining whether or not there is a problem with an individual unit.
