iPad mail crashes

I just updated my iPad 3 to iOS 6.3.1 and my mail crashes every time I try to open it. I messed with the accounts and found that GMAIL is the cause. I have tried powering it on and off, a hard reset, resetting the network settings, deleting the gmail account and then adding it back and nothing has fixed the problem. To make things even worse the iPad can no longer access WiFi as it now says the password is incorrect. iOS 6.3.1 *****. I would advise people not to update. The last thing I will be trying before going to apple is a fresh restore. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

 Cheers, Tom 😉

I may have a solution (at least, this has worked for me for a full 24 hours now). It seems tied to Google's new 2-party verification/Application Specific Password scheme.

First I deleted my Gmail accounts from my iPhone and then did a full Restore in iTunes just so I was starting from scratch. This step may not be necessary, but I did it just to make sure.

I went to this page and followed the instructions for creating an App Specific Password:

http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=185833

Click on the link that says "Authorizing Applications and Sites" to get to the Gmail login page (where your existing password should work) to get to this page

https://accounts.google.com/IssuedAuthSubTokens?hide_authsub=1

Once you go through all the steps and get the ASP, you enter it as if it were your Gmail password (all other credentials are the same) and then, in theory, that will confirm for Gmail that your device is valid. From that point on, your normal Gmail password should be enough to get you in.

LIke I said, it has worked for me for a whole day now, but remains to be seen if this is a permanent fix.

I found solution to fix mail.app crashing.

Use filebrowser ("ifile" for example) and go to /var/mobile/library/caches/com.apple.mobilemail/ and delete or rename the file "Cache.db". Then restart your device. That's all. It should now working! Good luck!

If any other app crashing, find it in the caches folder and do the same.

Hi,

I thought this was the very nicest solution! So I installed the "iFiles" app (with an "s" - also tried the "iFile" app), but the only files I get to see is stupid folders like "Documents", "Movies", "Music", "Pictures", which all - for some reason are empty.

So how do I get access to iPads managing files like the one you point at?

Also tried connecting the iPad to computer via IP address. That gave me the same folders as mentione above.
