FCP 5 and AJA Io - Connectivity and Set Up to Capture
Can someone help me to resolve setup and capture from a Sony UVW-1800 (Betacam SP deck) using AJA Io with Final Cut Pro 5? I have installed the US Analog package from AJA's website and FCP is hearing audio from the deck but I am not getting any video on the capture module nor am I showing communication with the deck. I have used component video cvonnections in/out of Io and connected an RS-422 cable from Io to deck and firewire from mac to AJA. I feel like this is just a matter of the combinations of settings from the numerous dropdown boxes. I am attempting to use the AJA Io-NTSC US RGB 8 Bit Uncompressed Easy Setup. Any help I could get would be appreciated.

I'd think that the easy setup is correct and should work if all else is correct.
Make sure the cables between the IO and your deck are setup right. red should be connected to R-y, Blue one to B-y and Green one to Y... Might also refresh your devices... option+F12.
Thanks for the response. Pulled all cables and re-connected them to be sure and all is proper. I now have video but the whites ( in color bars) are way out of phase. They are coming up green. I still don't have communications with deck.

Thanks for your help. Just out of curiousity I changed to a Y/C (S video) cable into the AJA from the deck, then changed the Easy Setup to reflect change and video and color issues go away but I still have no communications with the deck. Any suggestions where to start there?
Check the Device control settings.... set the RS-422 control to be LTC+VITC. This is done by clicking on the current control you are using from the Audio/Video settings found in the FCP menu, and "editing" it by clicking on the button below in the window... Then I'd reconnect those 3 video cables, when the colors are out of phase it's because you're either not making a clean connection, or the are routed to the wrong inputs on the IO... component video would be better than S FWIW...
Have changed back to component input to AJA and chenged the Capture/Input setting on the FCP Capture Module to
AJA Io YPbPr Betacam 8-bit US NTSC 48 kHz from RGB 8-bit that I was previous using and video is now right. Still no communications after editing the device setup. Can use at this point with no control and just do capture on the fly without remote control.
I have been editing for a long time but I am new to Final Cut Pro. Thanks for all the help. I appreciate your taking time to lend a hand.

I have reset the RS-422 as suggested. The deck is set up for LTC and generated internally in Record Run. There is still no communication with the deck. No, I don't have time code in the capture window. For this project, I can get along without it. Just cutting some old commercial content out of some previously broadcast shows. Would like to come to the bottom of this dilemma for future projects though. Again, I thank you for your help. I am going to go and pick up a new RS-422 cable in sase this one is funky. I have also had to use a gender bender on this one as I have a Male/female and needed a male/male.
