What device on your network were you backing up to? Are you sure your TC is powered on and still connected to your WIFI network. If it's not, you TM backups won't work obviously. Go check that device before anything else. Also, if it is on, power cycle it first. Unplug power from it for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. If it still doesn't work and you're sure it's connected to your WIFI network (check connected devices on your router config page), then it's possible the hard drive in that TC has gone bad.

I thought you meant working- no I don't know if it's connected. You asked if it was powered on- which it is. Because I see the power light on. But beyond that- I don't know what to check.

it keeps on saying it's backing up- I see the TM spinning but when I go into preferences it shows last backup was in February. So I don't know what it's doing.

Power cycle the TC box like I said. Also, when you set up that TC box, you had to get it on the network somehow. Did you do that? If so, go through those same steps again to check that it's working fine. If not and someone else did this for you, then maybe you need to ask that same someone for help in person again. More than likely your issue is that the TC is not being seen by your Mac on the same network due to a networking issue or due to the hard drive in the TC having gone bad. Either way, you have to get to the point of being able to see that TC again in order for TM to see it and start backing up. Does that make sense to you?

Hello Richard and Swank. My TC is about 2 years old. I set it up but honestly don't remember what I did. The last backup was February 12, 2013. I see it backing up- for example, t's spinning around right now. But in the end, it still says Feb was the last backup. So it's trying but doesn't seem to be completing. I think that's progress??

That's not progress at all. You said that when you open TimeMachine, it says the drive can't be found for TC. That's pretty basic indicator that there's a problem there. You need to crack open your setup instructions for TC and redo it all again. Anything short of that and you're wasting your time. If you don't know what to do, then pay someone to do it for you... that's your path of least resistance.

Is it possible that you're not letting the system be up and on enough in order to actually complete a backup? What's the chance that you actually don't have it up long enough to catch these windows? If it's not up for extended periods of time during the day and just in short bursts of 30-45 minutes, it's possible that you're missing your backup windows or that it may start, but it won't finish because you're not waiting on it to actually finish.
