iBook won't let me do anything

I have an iBook G3 (I believe) that my friend gave me, it came from a school. The only thing that I can get to work is Open Firmware. If I try to install OS X, with a disc or through target disc mode, or even create an admin account after booting into the CLI, it just reboots before I can do anything. I've tried clearing the PRAM and it still does this. Is there anything I can do in Open Firmware mode? Or possibly something I haven't tried?

Perhaps a bad RAM stick. (located underneath the keyboard and RAM Shield)

Try to remove the RAM and restart (your iBook has additional soldered RAM)

Try removing the ram as well as removing the hard drive and installing a known working drive and see if that helps with the comptuer. The machine is getting very old, i would not recomend putting money into the computer.
