Where is the synch button in the new iTunes?

I have ripped music from some physical CDs onto iTunes on my computer, but I have a new (well, new-to-me) iPod Nano and and iPad I want to use also. I've never tried to synch them before but everything I see online says to use the synch button on the left-side menu of iTunes. Where is the menu??? My itunes has no left-side bar at all and I haven't found it digging through any of the other buttons.
