Have you installed and updated anything else at the same time after upgrading to Mt. Lion?

Are you using any audio interfaces? You may need to check, if any drivers you installed are compatible with Mt. Lion. Check with the manufacturers, if there are updates.

What exactly does GarageBand do, when you are trying to launch it? It is just sitting in the Dock and bouncing, without opening the Applications window, or does it open its window, but is unresponsive?

    Regards

Yes, I have installed drivers for an audio interface (digidesign 002), but I am not sure they are compatible with mt Lion. I will check if there are updates.

when I intall GB, everything is fine until I crate a new project ( or open one ), it says that there is a MIDI latency but there is nothing plugged into my computer so I can't open it and it is loading infinitely. so I force GB to quit. now, when I try to lanch it now, first, it start bouncing then it doesn't open or it loads the audio units and it says that GB doesn't awnsers and I have to force to quit.

    Thank you for awnsering

I'd try to find out if GarageBand will work on your Mac at all by logging into a different user account (create one from the "System Preferences" > "User & Groups" panel, if you do not have one). If you launch GarageBand from a new User account, where you never used GarageBand, will it launch?

If you cannot even launch GarageBand from a different user account, reinstall MacOS X as described by Kappy in this post:

    Re: Performance Issues

But if GarageBand works well from a different user account, try to remember which settings you changed in your current account.

Doesn't work, but it is a good idea!

Tanks a lot for your help

You cannot launch GarageBand from a different account? Then your system is probably corrupted.

Since you already reinstalled GarageBand, it must be something in your MacOS.

Yes, I have installed drivers for an audio interface (digidesign 002)

Do your digidesign drivers come with uninstallers? Then I'd run the uninstaller, else go directly for a system reinstall.

No I can't launch it with a new account. that's why I have decided to unistal GB again to install it with the new csession, but now I can't instal it again because the Mac App Store tells me it is installed (on both sessions)...

There is unfortunately no unistaller for th drivers.

So I will try to install GB later

but now I can't instal it again because the Mac App Store tells me it is installed (on both sessions)...

If you bought GarageBand from the AppStore, delete GarageBand from the Applications folder (select it and type ⌘⌫). you will need to enter your Administrator password. This will move GarageBand to the Trash. Don't empty the Trash, so you can put GarageBand back, if necessary. Then download it again from the AppStore. This will reinstall it.

    Earlier you said:

I have unistalled then installed it again and I have the same problem.

Did the reinstall earlier not work, or did I misunderstand you?

  • sk00 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

No the reinstall did not work but It was on my main session, I will install it from the new session.

(it is ok, I can now install it from the mac app store)

I don't have your  audio interface (digidesign 002), so I have no idea, where it may be installed; you could download the "etrecheck" Apple Script. It will scan your mac and list all installed extensions that are not original mac extensions. That might give us an idea what needs to be uninstalled.

    Download EtreCheck for Mac Free

And here is ahelp file from digidesign:

    http://akarchive.digidesign.com/support/docs/Mbox_2_CoreAudio_Guide.pdf

If I understand that correctly,  the installer has an uninstall mode. Try running the installer again, as described in this help document.

    Etrecheck tells me that:

       [failed] com.apple.midiserver.plist

       [failed] com.apple.mrt.uiagent.plist

There were no installer with my driver, I just downloaded a disk image then runned it.

Did etrecheck report anything in the section "Kernel extensions"?

  • sk00 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

    It says that:

    Kernel Extensions:

              com.Greatdy.driver.SystemAudioCapture          Version: 1.0.0

              com.digidesign.iokit.DigiDal          Version: 9.0f4

              com.Cycling74.driver.Soundflower          Version: 1.6.2

              net.telestream.driver.TelestreamAudio          Version: 1.0.5

              com.hzsystems.terminus.driver          Version: 4

              com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard          Version: 5.7.2

I have searched, and I could not find any upgrade for Mt. LIon on a reliable site. I doubt that the driver you have is compatible with Mt. LIon, And I  could not find an uninstaller either. If you do not have the installer CD mentioned in the help, it will be complicated to uninstall.

I downloaded the installer and looked what it will install. It really does not contain any option to uninstall like earlier versions.

The files will be installed all over the place in your System Library. I am sure the Kernel extensions

             com.digidesign.iokit.DigiDal          Version: 9.0f4

             com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard          Version: 5.7.2

are installed by this driver (probably in /System/Library/Extensions/) but for sure you will also find files in

    /System/Library/LaunchAgents/

    and

    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/

    and

    /System/Library/StartupItems/

I cannot advise you which files exactly need to be uninstalled, because I do not have this driver on my system and by simply guessing we might delete too much.

    Etrecheck tells me that:

       [failed] com.apple.midiserver.plist

       [failed] com.apple.mrt.uiagent.plist

I would not worry about mrt.uiagent.plist. This is a new Mt. Lion addition to check for maware. But the midiserver should launch without problems.

So I think you really need to get rid of the digidesign stuff and to reinstall the system. Contact the manufacturer for help.

    I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!

It was my MIDI drivers that had a problem so I deleted the Folder /Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers then restarted my mac and ... it works perfectly! It is my fault I haven't told you everything well.

Thousands of thank for having taken time to help me @LeonieDF, you were very helpful!
