I just bought an iPhone 4s without sim card at an Apple Store. Now I can't get the sim tray open to insert the sim card. What am I doing wrong?

DId you insert a paperclip or similar into the eject hole on the side of the iphone by the SIM tray?
There should be a SIM eject tool in the box. Insert in the small hole on the right hand side of the iPhone to eject the tray. You have to get the correct angle.

I do not believe that a SIM eject tool has been provided for the past couple of years.

I had already tried with the paper clip. Now , I have finally found the tool, and pushed it at several angles with no result. I have tried with the phone on and off. I suppose I'll have to go back to the Apple Store tomorrow.
Disagree. I have got several. 20 month old iPhone 4, a 12 month old iPhone 4S and most recently an iPhone 5.
The manuals visible there say nothing about SIM cards. I've tried everything: paper clips. and the tool I finally found. Back to the Apple Store tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your replies.

You do have to push quite hard probably harder than you would expect

Not in many countries.
