Itunes Apple ID password isn't working

I'm trying to purchase a sog, but every time I enter my apple ID passwrod it says it's an 'Unknown Error' so i enter it again and it says I've entered it wrong twice. I've tried resetting it and it still does not work. How can I fix it?

MacBook Pro, iOS 6.1

I had this same problem--entering my correct password and then receiving the "Unknown error" message. What resolved the problem for me was removing a device from the list of those associated with my Apple ID... the computer I was trying to log in with (which was an "authorized" computer on my iTunes account) would have been the 11th device associated with my ID. But there is a 10-device limit. So I removed one of the other 10 devices, and then was able to log in without a problem--that is, my password was accepted.

To see the devices associated with your ID: open iTunes on your computer (can't do this from iOS device), go to the Store, then log in to your Account ("Account" is one of the quick links on the right side of my screen once in the Store). Once your Account page is open, you'll see a section entitled, "iTunes in the Cloud", and there is an item within that section called "Manage Devices" - click the hyperlink to see the devices associated with your ID.
