garageband is not exporting mp3 files

Hello!

I recently got a problem with exporting mp3 files from garageband to my hard disk. I just wanted to export a demo with only 2 tracks (vocals and guitar, both real linstruments). When I start to export it, in garageband it all looks fine. I choose a folder but when it's done i can't find the file in that folder I have chosen. It's just not there. Can anybody please help me out on this?

I am using GarageBand '08 on a black macbook. There's enough space and everything. The file just never appears.

Thanks

Markus

Markus, what is your MacOS X version?

Have you tried to search with the Finder or Spotlight for your exported file? Sometimes MacOS X writes files to a different location, if it cannot write to the folder you selected.

Where is the folder located, that you want to export to? In your home folder on your system drive or on an external drive?

Thanks for the answer Léonie!

I am using Mac OS X 10.7.5

I tried to search for the file but it still does not appear. The Folder is just my desktop. I've got this problem for a long time but sometimes it works and sometimes is doesn't. Sometimes I tried to export to a different folder and it worked but still not everytime. Pretty weird!

Will deleting my GarageBand Preference Files have an affect to my daily use of GarageBand?

It will be a bit of extra work for you. But that is explained in the FAQ. The preferences file stores all setings you set up using the "GarageBand > Preferences" panel, also the size of the window and the list of your recent projects.

If you delete this file, Garaband will reset these settings to their factory defaults and create a new file. This way a corrupted file can be replaced by a readable one.

You could move the preferences to the trash, but not empty the Trash. This way you can put them back, if removing them did not help.

I didn't memorize the dates where it didn't work... It actually happened more than twice and it's definitely more than one project that is concerned for that matter.

Here's the error message for one of the crahes. Hope it's what you need...

sorry for clicking "This solved my question". It was an accident

No need to apologize. Unfortunately you cannot undo it, and it may keep others from reading the thread and helping. We really need someone who still has GarageBand '08 on Lion to jump in.

I don't think that thread segment you posted is related to the problem at hand.

Perhaps the Console Window will show further clues to what is going on. You'll find the Console.app in the folder "Applications > Utilities". In the sidebar (Press the "Show Log list" button to reveal it) select "All Messages" and press "Clear Display". Then launch GarageBand again and try to export to disk.

Do you see any suspicious messages?

Good! 🙂 I am glad it is working now.

Is it normal that you have some kind of crashes or problems from time to time?

You should not have that kind of problems. It may happen from time to time, if you have imported audio files with corruptions, run out of disk space, or force quit an application, so that files are not closed properly. Frequently such problems may be caused by incompatible third party software, audio drivers, kernel extensions, etc.

I appreciate this is an old post but I have

Mountain Lion 10.8

Garage band 9

ITunes 12

I recently tried to export a track from Garage band and it hung with converting bar and I left it running over night and tried various settings and repeatedly force quitting!

From the various threads, investigating my crash logs, I found something. I also found something about Console on another thread. Neither were helpful!

However, the workaround I have found is that instead of sending directly to iTunes, if you save the file to disk, you have all the normal options, and then adding the file to iTunes library, it adds no problem.

Extra step but thought I would share it with others who are still using a legacy system and running into this problem and may come across this thread.
