iTunes does not sync calendars due to error

itunes can not sync my calendars with my iPhone 5. It says it encounters an error but no error message shows up.

This started after I tried to try iCloud and had so much trouble I turned iCloud off.

Is there any where I can find where the error is and correct it? I've looked at Console but see where the error hppens.

Thanks

Here is a copy of the console report during the syncing. The error apparently happens during the merging of the calendars.

Hi Larry,

iCloud and iTunes syncing are not particularly compatible (as you've found out). If you have both running you almost certainly will get duplicates. From your log it looks like you have come across a block to stop that duplication loop becoming infinite (i.e sync to iCloud > sync to another device > sync back via iTunes > sync to iCloud ... repeat ad infinitum making duplicates each loop).

I suggest you:

1 Select your calendar in iCal's calendar list and from the File menu select Export… > Export… and save the calendar.

2 From the File menu select New Calendar > On My Mac and make a new calendar.

3 In the Finder open the file you saved in point 1, selecting the destination as the calendar made in point 2.

4 Once you are happy the data in the calendar is a good copy of what you were expecting delete the old calendar.

5 Repeat steps 1-4 for each additional calendar you are wanting to sync.

5 Sync via iTunes again (or by iCloud if you like - but definitely not by both).

Best wishes

John M

Good Morning John,

I had no problem following your instruction John and I thank you.

It does not fix the syncing problem and I did the following

Once I had the exported calendar saved to desk top I used my TM to back that up.

I renamed the new calendar "main calendar" using the file menu in iCal.

During syncing using iTunes the same message come up.

I unchecked in iTunes everything except reminders and it still gave me the message.

I then did a bold thing and deleted my calendar on my iPhone thinking that could be a merge problem and

it still gives me this message.

Here is the log;

Reminders Application? you mean on the iPhone? I don't have a reminder app on the mac that I know about.

Anyway I did reset the Sycn Services folder per the instructions.

Then I tried to sync using iTumes and got the same message again. My Calendar on the Mac is ok after recovering it from TM so I check the box in iTunes to one time replace the iPhone calendar with the one on the Mac.

That worked and now it syncs fine. Interesting to say the least.

Really appreciate your help John I have only one question left. when I replaced the calendar not all the data went into the phone. I did uncheck the "do not sync data older than 0 days. So I should have all data transferd into the iPhone. Right?

My reminders are still in iCal as I have version 5.0.6 of iCal and 10.7.5 on my mac. I just checked for updates and it says I am current.

In any case I guess I could do the export/import thing with my reminders as they aren't coming in during the sync.

(boy I'll never touch iCloud again except to find my phone as that I have used).

I will try to locate the reminder file on the Mac and do the export function. I have reminders on my iPhone as I use it almost every day.

I'll let you know.

Again many thanks, you are a wealth of knowledge.

I think I''m confused.

I have reminders in my iCal on the right hand side and seldom use it.

The reminders I'm talking about and use often is the ones in the iPhone 5 which are real handy as the will let you know when you are near a store to purchase item you might need. (if you have the address of the store in your contact list.)

I guess they aren't involved when you sync you phone with iTunes.

Sorry about that.
