Will apple replace my charger?

Hi I have a 60W MagSafe charger and the rubber lining came slightly off the plug about a month ago. I put some tape around and dismissed it. Apparently it was coming off worse and worse and well it ended up turning my MacBook Pro off. I got my Mac in late 2011. So when I took it out of my computer and unwrapped the tape the white rubber thing was torn and exposed everything, and the grey wire was torn. Well I tried to fix it, I stripped the gray wire and I tried to connect it. It didn't work we'll then I googled and I found a recall of the product saying if the rubber came off well replace it and I was wondering would they replace it in my situation? Please help. Thank you.

Basically, you have to bring it and your MBP to Apple for evaluation. I wish could give you an definitive answer, but the decision is up to them.

Don't use a defective charger - it could damage your MBP. Get a new one, even if you have to spend $79.
