White screen after sleep using 10.8.3

Ever since I upgraded to 10.8.3 using the Combo update, whenever my computer wakes from sleep, I get an all-white screen. I can "select" parts of the screen using the mouse and the regular wallpaper comes into view. At that point I can use the computer just fine. I have re-installed the combo updtae and restarted the computer but the "white-outs" keep happeneing. Any thoughts as to why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the grey screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.

Try an SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.

Reset SMC

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Eric,

I've tried resetting both the NVRAM/PRAM and the SMC, and neither of those helped.

My machine refuses to boot into Safe Mode: The progress bar will get to a certain point (it's always the same point each time), and then freeze forever (I left it running for 6 hours, and the Safe Mode boot progress bar did not budge beyond that point).

To fix this issue, you might have to reformat your hard drive. Check out the steps in this article (specifically the "File system errors" section) to see if you can address this issue first, and then try booting to safe mode and otherwise tackle the white screen issue: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57573680-263/what-to-do-when-a-mac-wont-boo t-to-safe-mode/

Iv'e reset my PRAM and SMC, neither of which helped. I cannot boot into Safe Mode, as the progress bar freezes 1/4 of the way through...

Took it to the Apple Store today, and they have no clue, other than the dumb advice to "Replace the logic board' (even though they are not sure the problem is caused by the logic board), or "Re-install from scratch", which would 1) Delete all of my data, and 2) Require me to restore from back-up, which would then re-copy the bug back onto my system in the first place.
